A LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCE
AIM FOR THE STAR - FLORENCE DESIGN SCHOOL
In the summer of 2020 I joined the Florence Design School after reading about their practical approach to teaching. While studying in another design school the previous year, I was looking for a different learning experience. So I applied to STAR’S Master of Interior Design Florence course and quickly fell in love with the city and its beauty. The warm and welcoming vibe is striking. The culture, architecture, history, food and so many things make this city so effortlessly charming. It is easy to feel comfortable here.
Shortly after starting the first semester at Florence Design School Covid and the first lockdown began. Studying became challenging under uncertain and unusual conditions. Dealing with personal matters such as anxiety, feelings were amplified by big changes. Living in a student residence however with a small community made it manageable.
IT FELT GOOD TO RETURN TO A SOMEWHAT NORMAL LIFE AND BE BACK IN THE CLASSROOM
With time I formed a new routine and adapted to the reality of life with Covid. I confirmed my transfer to the interior design course at STAR Florence design school with a new learning method in design. With some restrictions lifted, it felt good to have a somewhat normal life being back in the classroom, since spending many months with online schooling.
A ROLLER COASTER RIDE
The initial transition came with struggles to function fully. I even questioned my career choice in interior design, to know if it was the right fit for me. It triggered insecurities, limited beliefs and took time to come to terms with aspects of myself and work. But I learned many things about life and design. With willingness I surpassed the fears and doubts to accept learning is a process. Studying in this course at Florence design school has led me on a journey. A challenging experience, but definitely one worth going through.
I learnt many things throughout the course about life and design
ENLIGHTENED BY THE STAR
My time at Florence Design School confirmed what I am interested in- the aesthetics and decoration of interior design. This Interior design Master course is inspiring. It gave me the opportunity to learn about different architects, designers, styles and ideas. I learnt that design doesn’t need to be complicated or cutting edge to be good. Simplicity goes a long way and that inspires me for the future. I before believed that design needs to be “extraordinary” but I learned that “less is more” and how to apply it.
Learning color theory and palette combinations is very interesting. The Interior design course in Florence helped me to try things I wouldn’t have personally chosen. It put me in the shoes of a real designer working with a client. This means not only following my own preferences but focusing on the clients needs. Studying the rules of proportion, order, interior design planning and decoration is enlightening. I see more clearly the thought process behind the aesthetically pleasing interiors we see everyday.
THE STARS HAVE ALIGNED
Overall this has been a roller coaster ride for me with many ups, downs and unexpected turns of events. Studying interior design at the Florence Design School reminds me why I got into this field. I now want to focus on the aspects of design that are interesting to me, and work to improve the parts I find challenging. Design is about solving problems, about making lives better through beauty and function; and this is something I am definitely interested in long term.
